installed mysql 4 when i goto mysql exe and try to create dabase xxx;
i get access denied for user : @ localhost to database xxx
can any one help me been at it for hours now pc is going out of the window

From the error you gave it seems that you didn't specify the user name. When running the mysql client, you should type: mysql -u username -p
Only include the -p if there is a password for the account.
