Order Tracking

I want to add a feature to a website that allows the customer to track his order status. I know how I want this to work, but I'm not a programmer I'm a graphic designer so I need some help.

I want a form where the user enters his order number. It would then bring up a page where it says his status. Now, I want to be able to change the order status manually whenever it changes. For instance, initially the status is "Your order is pending" then "Your order is approved and will be shipped today" then "Your order has been shipped. Your tracking number is _________." I need to be able to basically have a list of the order numbers and statuses and just edit this list. How would I go about doing this?

This seems pretty basic I'm sure, but I'm trying to help out my brother with his website without costing him an arm and a leg to get his business going. My specialty just isn't code. Thanks guys!

You'd need a basic MySQL table, with a couple of columns: order_number and status. You'd then use a simple PHP script to run the following query on the table: SELECT * FROM orders WHERE order_number = $_GET['orderid']. You'd have to name the input area where the visitor enters his order number 'orderid' for my example to work Smile

Now, on to how to do this. There aren't any specific tutorials, but any basic "getting started with MySQL & PHP" tutorials should do it. You can then read them and adapt them to what you need, using information I provided above.
