Is it time to replace Perl with PHP?
http://www.phpbuilder.com/columns/jayesh20021111.php3 wrote: | Introduction
With the introduction of version 4.2, PHP has started supporting a new SAPI (Server Application Programming Interface) called CLI (Command Line Interface). This facility was introduced to help developers create small shell applications (scripts) with PHP. So, now you can kiss Perl goodbye forever.
The CLI SAPI was released for the first time with PHP 4.2.0, but was still experimental back then and had to be explicitly enabled with --enable-cli when running ./configure. With PHP 4.3.0 the CLI SAPI will no longer be experimental and therefore will always be built and installed as the php (called php.exe on Windows) binary. |

What is really needed is a Perl <-- --> PHP convertor.
This sort of program would be a goldon app |

I think you would have to be a PHP and Perl god to be able to write one. |

From what I have heard, the problem with Perl is that there are way too many ways to do one thing, which means that everyone does it the way they want |

Ok, but our name is 4WEBHELP and you go renamed it to 4PHPHELP ????
Don't tell me that nobody is using Perl anymore in this world. All kind of programming we've to give support. Not only PHP but also Perl/Javascript/ASP/
You know that PHP is the same as Perl but it's more simple, so everybody can work with this. Still when you like to remove this from our Forum then remove more en make one with the name
Other Scripting Support ---> Perl, JavaScript, ASP |

I never said we should stop supporting Perl or remove its forum. I'm just trying to create some discussion on the disadvantages/advantages of Perl vs. PHP. |

I was thinking about this problem of language incompatibility recently. I was thinking that you could define a new language that is a dialect of XML. Then use XSLT to transform your program into any language you liked. Only problem being, this language would have to be a subset of all languages, making most tasks impossible . Still, a nice use for XML, I thought |
