I am having trouble making these files. I am not sure where to put the information, how to put the information. How do I display the path to the root directory? How do I make these two files then upload them if they have now name preceding the . ie .htaccess as opposed to user.htaccess

When I try to upload the files onto the server, they dissappear. If I try and name a file abcxyz.htaccess it works, when I remove the abcxyz then the file dissappears. Why is that? Cute FTP wont let me upload .htaccess at all.

Does the file disappear on your hard disk, or on your website? If it's disappearing on your website, then you'll have to tick the option in CuteFTP which says something like "Show hidden files". If they're disappearing on your hard disk, then just don't rename them until you've FTPed them to your server.

Not sure what host or transfer methods (not familiar with cuteFTP) you are using but unix by default hides files that begin with "." Try finding that option to show hidden files.. if you have shell access ls -a should show all the files including dot-files...

Good Luck. Smile
