OK, probably a stupid question I know, but how do you do the Global Announcement?

Hi Mike,

Right now it's a very cheap hack Very Happy. All I did was include an extra field in the config table, called global_announcement. I then passed this field on to the templates in page_header.php with the assign command. I then included the assigned variable in the viewforum.tpl template, above the normal post rows. So this field basically contains an HTML link to a topic.

As to editing it, it's done via the admin panel in the "Configuration" section. Just copy the existing code for "site description" and apply it to this new field.

Right, I think I might just wait for phpBB 2.2 to be released Wink

According to the developers that should be before the end of this year, but you never know Wink

You know there is a global announcements mod floating around, which works somewhat like global announcements do in 2.2... Smile

No, I didn't know about the global announcement mod. I might go look for it.
Yeah, I can't wait til 2.2 is released, I've had a look at area51.phpbb.com and I've got (a very dodgy) CVS install of 2.1.1 on my local system Smile
