Hi,

I hope that i am posting this in the correct place. If not tell me and i'll move it.

I'm looking for a host for the PHPBB. Hopefully free. Not to worried about the bandwith or size (other than big enought to house 600+ members and their posts)

Been looking for best part of 2 weeks and only just found this site!!!!

Thanks

Something free would be difficult to find, but then you say that you have 600 members. Are they active members, or is there usually something like 1-2 members online?

Also, if you have to pay, how much are you willing to spend?

At the moment the most i have had online at anyone time has been about 10-15.

I am looking for somewere to house a development site so that i can make changes away from the real site and then match the two up at a later date.

Re paying. I think that about £20 pa would be about enough.

Oh, one more question: how big is your database right now, and how much do you think it will grow in the next year or so?

Erm,

At the moment i dont have one the site is hosted on msn and i am moving it as it is getting too big and complicated for the simple features they have.

The PHPBB board would be used everyday with an average of about 15-12 posts per day. On a good day i have had to deal with over 50 posts in a day.

Sorry i cant help in terms of size etc but as i said above the site is on MSN!!

One other thing. The 600 members has been over the last 7 months and is constantly being added to at a rate of about 5 per day.

Thanks

OK, two solutions for you then (that I would recommend):

  • If your site is about something "interesting": Go to WebHostingTalk, and post in the Web Hosting Requests forum. You might find someone nice enough to host you for free.
  • Pay for your hosting. At 34SP (http://www.34SP.com/) you can get 30 mb space and 1gb transfer for £15/year, or 50 mb space and 1,5 gb transfer for £25/year.
