 Installing PHP4 with Apache2 on Windows XP/98

I have successfully installed Apache2 (2.0.39), PHP4 (4.2.2) , and MySQL (3.23.32) on my WinXP and Win98 pc's with PHP running as the CGI executable. I would like to run PHP as an Apache module, but when I add the line:

LoadModule php4_module modules/php4apache.dll
or
LoadModule php4_module modules/php4apache2.dll

Apache refuses to start. I triple checked for typos, and both DLL files are in the modules directory and the system32 and system directory. Plz help.
