Does anyone know of any good hosts based on the UK(except f2s)?
Mainly because as a student I haven't either visa or mastercard(and I can't seem to find paypal at a good time) and I only got a switch card.
What I'm lookin for is basically php4, 20MB and 5MB mysql

there was a post on my MB quite a long time ago about this host, don't know if it's still available tho OR if the 'terms of use' are still the same.

Parlez-vous francais ? :-)

If so, here is the free solution:
http://www.free.fr/

I am from Germany, and I succeeded to get a free account - a postal letter is sent to the account owner with a registration code, so if they sent it to Germany, I assume that they sent it to all EU countries.
http://hemmerling.free.fr/

Adless free webspace with PHP, MySql, FTP upload,..

A little warning: Free.Fr is an ISP. According to the license agreement, *maybe* the account expires if you donīt do a far call and login by Free.Fr ISP services by an analog modem, at least once each 6 months.

I succeeded to login by analog modem (but not by ISDN !) from Germany, no problems. The costs for such a call are affordable, as you must just call a standard local phone number (no expensive numbers like 0900-, 0190-,..).

So remember, if you got a DSL or cable modem, you need to use an old analog modem once each 6 months to keep your account with Free.Fr.
:-)

The UK company I recommend is http://www.xcalibre.co.uk who I've found to be fantastic. Support is pretty fast, and they are cheap for what you get.

I wouldn't go for free.fr, as I've heard some bad stories about their reliability. Their database is quite bad, and for a while PHP disappeared!

uklinux.net is also an ISP, but they are quite good. Just sign up for a (free??) hosting account and you get the webspace.

http://www.34sp.com/ = 400 MB traffic / month free !

So the SAME limit as with Portland ! :-(

Btw, I just failed to sign free webspace accounts at
http://coolfreepages.com/
http://www.iwebland.com/
, due to CGI error at the end of the registration proces!

Since when is 100mb equal to 400mb?

Also, 400mb is fine for people who don't use much bandwidth (personal sites for example).

I had a similar situation to you, although if you can get your hands on a Visa Electron card from Barclays, You'll be able to use the card abroad, which will widen your choice a bit but not in this country (Really, Really Strange I know!) but thats what I done and can order from anyone outside the uk now Smile

Thus I have a Natwest Solo Switch card and a Barclays Visa Electron, between them you can get anything worldwide Smile
