Just a suggestion... Why not add some general forums so that we can chat freely?

I'm sure this forum only has a limited database size, so any irrelevant discussions probably won't be looked upon too fondly.

This is a web-help forum, there are plenty other resources on the net to chat about everything else.

The basic forum tables at the moment are already 0.6Mb in size.. BUT I do think a general chat forum would be good - the freewareJava forums have one to good effect (see http://freewarejava.com/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi?action=intro&BypassCookie=true for their forums) and it keeps the junk out of the others.

It's a forum to help people and getting help and not for lame chit chat. There are many chat rooms out there where you can chat

Why doesn't someone set up a free forum to do so? Surely there are services like such on the net.

While I was at F2S (most of us were kicked off - long story, check ex-F2S & Bad Hosts forums) it was quite difficult to remain on the point.

Lots of X-mas & New Year greetings and well-wishers filled up the forums, along with jibe matches and complaints about anything.

For this reason, it really corrupted the initial purpose of the forum, to give help to webmasters. Lets not let that happen with this one.

Well with the extra features of this board & good moderation should help to solve these problems.

Well, sort of, but we don't want really stupid posts in there. If we start getting that kind of posts, we'll get rid of the forum.

i think having 'general' forum is a necessary evil. it's no fun without it and quite a bother when abused. That's why phpBB2 has 'pruning' which u can let loose on that type of a forum.

I guess we could have a general forum, but with pruning. How many days do you think we should leave messages for?

I think it's a good idea to add just one general area. People are going to chit chat whether you want them to or not. This way, those chit chatters can contain their irrelevant discussions in one condensed area, and they won't bother the rest of us. If you think it's a bunch of ****, then just don't go visit that area. Smile Simple solutions to simple problems, eh?
