It's possible to ammend data within a file vs. just adding data to the beginning or the end of the file? Mean to change something in the "middle" of the file.

That really depends on what exactly is in the file. There are a few functions that will allow you to replace strings with other strings in a block of text, and also allow you to split a block of text up so that you can combine it with other strings.
What exactly is the format of the file you're trying to edit? and what kinds of modifications are you trying to make?
