I was under the impression that by putting the favicon.ico at the root of the domain it would appear on all pages.
In fact according to Peter's tutorial you shouldn't use a link in the file as that doesn't comply with w3c standards.
4WH's favicon works without a <link etc > |

Been reading a bit on various sites and there are so many conflicting bits of info its ridiculous
It would appear that its handle in a different way by just about every browser.
I'm using Safari 1.0 for Mac OS X and that is happy to display it in the address bar and in the bookmarks list - apart from on my site that is.
I'll try adding the link, see what affect it has...
<EDIT>
added the link but makes no difference to me - maybe my icon is no good
<EDIT2>
It shows up in IE 6 favourites!! needs a transparent background though |

I can see your favicon when adding the page to my favourites, which is normal because IE has buggy support for favicons in the address bar. The icon looks a little wierd though - when I view it in the browser it's invisible unless it's selected. You're right about browser support, it really depends on the browser. |

Just put:
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico">
in the head and you should be fine. Just remember to make the image 16 X 16 and an .ico file. A very useful site for making your favorite icon is: http://www.cursorarts.com/ (called Icon Forge) |
