Why are there many favicon.ico errors in my logs?
In Internet Explorer (and some other recent browsers), there is a feature called favicons. These are icons which are displayed next to the user's favourites (see Peter's Favicon tutorial for more details).

When a visitor using Internet Explorer visits your site and bookmarks it, IE will try to access favicon.ico in the root of your site, and in the directory where the bookmarked file is. If you have not put a favicon.ico file in the appropriate locations, then an error will be added to your log file.

These errors can be safely ignored. However, you may wish to create a favicon to stop this from happening. For instructions on doing this, please read Peter's Favicon tutorial.
